Bears help disperse seeds. When they eat fruit, the seeds are not digested and are then dispersed to different places in nature, which leads to the growth of new plants. Bears also help clean up carcasses and, as predators, maintain the balance of certain populations such as deer and moose.

Patof was brought to the shelter by wildlife officers. He had been reported by several people from the same neighborhood. He was wandering in the vicinity and feeding from bird feeders. Every year, many bear cubs are orphaned during bear hunting when the mother is killed. We strongly suspect that this is Patof's sad story. Fortunately, he was not injured and regained his freedom in the summer of 2021.
